Govt making sincere efforts to restore peace, normalcy: Manipur CM

Imphal, Oct 26 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today said his Government has been making sincere efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state through various initiatives and developmental activities.
He said this while inaugurating a new college building block of Regional College at Lilong Chajing, Imphal West and also laid the foundation stone for a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Langthabal Kunja Toupokpi, Imphal West district.

Addressing the gathering at the Indoor Stadium of Regional College, the Chief Minister said that the issue of restoring peace in the State had been consistently raised during his meetings with the Prime Minister.
He added that the Government is taking steps to improve the lives of the people and restore connectivity by reopening National Highways.

Referring to the unfortunate incident in which three persons lost their lives recently, the Chief Minister said that the incident had once again created tension in the State.
He stated that he had been deeply concerned since the incident occurred.
Referring to the people's demand for the withdrawal of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) militant groups, Sinai Camp in Kangpokpi district, he stated that the camp was occupied by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following an operation conducted by the CRPF's CoBRA team and other security forces.

The Chief Minister further stated that he has visited the residences of the three deceased persons today at Nungsum in Imphal East district and Raj Medicity Hospital to enquire about the condition of those injured.
He expressed concern over the prevailing situation and emphasised the need for collective efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

"With tears in their eyes, the villagers told me that they did not want gun culture, as it would never bring peace but only lead to more violence and suffering," he said, adding that ordinary people want peace.
He further observed that the "continued instigation and prolonging of the issue", particularly with elections approaching, could be driven with vested interests by some groups both in hills and valley seeking to undermine the BJP-led Government. Such situation only profits those groups who earn their livelihood, CM added.

The Chief Minister urged the Meitei community, being a majority community, to continue shouldering collective responsibility and making sincere efforts towards restoring peace and harmony in the State. He stressed that the cooperation and understanding of all communities were essential for ensuring lasting peace and creating a conducive environment.

Langthabal Assembly Constituency MLA Karam Shyam Singh appealed to the people to extend their support and cooperation to the developmental initiatives taken up by the Government.
He expressed hope that the ongoing efforts would bring greater progress and prosperity to the people in the coming years.
