New Santragachi–Jaipur train service to boost rail connectivity

Kolkata, Oct 26 (UNI) A new train connecting Santragachi in West Bengal with Khatipura in Jaipur was flagged off through video conferencing by union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development and Agricultural Marketing Minister Dilip Ghosh, along with several other ruling party leaders, were present at Santragachi railway station for the inauguration.
Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said passengers travelling to Jaipur earlier had to travel up to Kharagpur. The new train service connecting Jaipur with Jamshedpur and Kolkata would improve rail connectivity between Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It would benefit migrant workers residing in Rajasthan, business communities, students and other passengers travelling between the regions, he said.
Highlighting redevelopment projects at various railway stations in West Bengal and neighbouring states, Vaishnaw said work was progressing rapidly in the state following the change of government.
He alleged that the former chief minister had stalled the expansion of the Kolkata Metro network and had not allowed the construction of the bridge at Chingrighata. Work had progressed at a faster pace after the change of regime in West Bengal, he said.
Speaking about other projects, Vaishnaw said the railway line connecting Howrah and Mumbai would be expanded to four lines via Kharagpur, Chakulia and Tatanagar.
He also said the 4.5-km section connecting Beleghata and the IT Centre on the Kolkata Metro had been completed and trial runs had begun. The section would provide connectivity with the Green Line. After testing and certification were completed, he would request the Prime Minister to inaugurate the line, Vaishnaw said.
Addressing the event, Adhikari said the International Film Festival would be held from December 17 to 23, while the Pravasi Bharatiya Sammelan would take place in Kolkata on January 8 and 9, 2027. The World Energy Week was scheduled for January 27, he said, requesting the Railway Minister to ensure that the metro line was inaugurated before these events.
The Chief Minister also urged the Railway Minister to construct a railway line to Gangasagar and establish railway industries in the state.
He further sought the expansion of existing railway workshops at Kanchrapara, Liluah and Kharagpur to create employment opportunities for the people of West Bengal.
Commercial services of the 18061/18062 Santragachi–Khatipura (Jaipur)–Santragachi Express will begin on November 4 from Santragachi and November 6 from Khatipura.
The train will depart from Santragachi every Wednesday at 2.15 pm and reach Khatipura at 11 pm the following day. In the return direction, it will leave Khatipura every Friday at 9.15 am and arrive at Santragachi at 7.45 pm the next day.
According to the South Eastern Railway (SER), the train will stop at Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Chandil, Purulia, Muri, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Tori, Latehar, Barwadih, Daltonganj, Garhwa Road, Japla, Dehri on Sone, Sasaram, Bhabua Road, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Kanpur Central, Tundla, Idgah Agra, Kherli, Mandawar Mahwa Road, Bandikui and Dausa stations en route.
