Manipur CM calls for outreach to interior areas to achieve lasting peace

Imphal, Oct 7 (UNI) Making a strong pitch for lasting peace in Manipur ravaged by ethnic conflict, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Wednesday that efforts for unity and peace confined to the urban areas would not be sufficient stressing the need for greater outreach to people in the interior hill areas
Addressing the gathering after leading a Seva Jyoti foot march to the historic Kangla Fort, the Chief Minister pointed out that the valley accounts for only around 8 per cent of Manipur’s total geographical area. He called for a practical approach involving direct engagement with people in the hills, recalling that historically the kings of Manipur frequently visited hill areas when the State was a kingdom.
Khemchand Singh said the State’s 36 communities must stand united for peace, protection of Manipur’s integrity and collective contribution towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and a Viksit Manipur.
