Puri Jagannath temple administration plans new facility to serve pilgrims, servitors

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3 (UNI) The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has planned a new modern facility in Puri to cater to the accommodation and other needs of pilgrims and servitors, with the proposed ‘Patitapaban Bhakta Nivas’ to come up on temple land behind the existing Neeladri Bhakta Nivas.
The proposal was discussed at the recent meeting of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, which also deliberated on the project’s design and execution with officials of the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC).
The temple administration has sought funding for the project under the ABADHA scheme, writing to the State government after development of the land identified for the facility.
The proposed Bhakta Nivas will have a modern conference hall (Kalyan Mandap) and a dispensary on the ground floor, primarily for the use of temple servitors. The facility is intended to provide accommodation and other amenities to pilgrims and devotees visiting Puri.
The decision to construct the facility on temple administration land near Srimarg was taken at a meeting held last year under the chairmanship of the Works Minister. OBCC has been tasked with preparing the detailed project report (DPR).
Temple Chief Administrator Dr Aravind Kumar Padhee has written to the Principal Secretary of the Works Department seeking expeditious preparation of the DPR and commencement of construction work.
The new facility will add to the temple administration’s existing pilgrim accommodation infrastructure, which includes Neeladri, Nilachal, Sri Gundicha and Purushottam Bhakta Nivas.UNI MK AAB
