Tripura faces challenge due to cessation of revenue gap grant

Agartala, Sept 24 (UNI) Finance Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Singha Roy, said that the state government is facing financial challenges due to the cessation of the annual revenue gap grant of approximately Rs 4,000 crore.
This discontinuation resulted from the 16th Finance Commission's recommendations and affects several states, including Tripura.
Singha Roy emphasised the importance of addressing this gap by following the Commission's advice, which encourages states to enhance their own revenue-generation capabilities.
In response, Tripura is focusing on boosting its income through various strategies without introducing new taxes. Singha Roy assured that efforts are in place to generate revenue without burdening citizens.
The matter has been brought to the attention of the union Finance Minister, and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has discussed it with the Prime Minister.
Tripura has also secured Rs 3,450 crore under the new "Pride of Hill" scheme, which can be utilized for various purposes, including existing projects and loan repayments. Approximately Rs 1,000 crore will be allocated to cover the revenue gap and other financial needs.
Regarding the state's financial health, Singha Roy maintained that it is not a crisis, citing ongoing recruitment, cultural grants, and benefits as evidence. UNI BB SAS
