Ration card verification begins in Tripura

Agartala, Oct 01 (UNI) Tripura’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department started a major check of ration-card beneficiaries from Thursday to find inactive, duplicate and possibly ineligible beneficiaries under the State’s SMART-PDS system.
The officials said cards with no ration lifted for six months in a row will be classed as “silent ration cards” and made inactive for a time. Ration allocations for these cards will be suspended while they are inactive.
Beneficiaries will have three months to complete e-KYC checks. Those whose cards are flagged for review must confirm they are eligible through the required electronic process. The notice says cards may be removed from the active system if beneficiaries miss the deadline.
Beneficiaries must use the approved e-KYC service through the PDS system and submit the details needed to confirm their identity and eligibility, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
Tripura’s Ration Card Management System (RCMS) is linked to Aadhaar-based e-KYC and the AePDS platform. Government data puts the number of ration-card families at about 9.9 lakh, covering more than 37 lakh people. Aadhaar seeding for heads of families has been reported at 100 percent.
The department’s online RCMS portal lets users check ration-card details, Aadhaar links and e-KYC status. The review will also look for people listed on more than one ration card. If someone appears in several records, the department may label one entry a “duplicate beneficiary” and begin the required correction process.
People who complete e-KYC within the set period and qualify will continue to receive benefits through the eligible card. Their names may be removed from any other duplicate cards. The department has urged beneficiaries to check that their Aadhaar details and mobile number are correctly linked to their ration-card records. The RCMS portal allows Aadhaar authentication using a one-time password sent to the registered mobile number.
AePDS figures show the size of the task. On September 30, Tripura had 9,92,585 ration cards. Of these, 9,02,644 received ration in September, giving the system a monthly transaction rate of 90.94 percent.
Many cards therefore had no transaction that month. But a single month without ration does not make a card “silent”; the department’s stated rule is six consecutive months without a ration withdrawal.
The department has advised people who have not collected ration for a long time, moved home, found duplicate entries, or missed e-KYC to check their records and complete the required steps.
