Work with transparency and without bias, Bengal CM tells newly recruited Cooperative Inspectors

Kolkata, Nov 4 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday urged newly recruited state government employees to maintain integrity and work without bias while implementing welfare programmes.
Addressing a programme where appointment letters were handed over to 152 newly recruited Cooperative Inspectors, Adhikari said they should work "with sincerity, honesty, transparency and impartiality".
He said more than 200 candidates had initially been selected, but some subsequently took up other jobs.
Describing the cooperative sector as an "alternative economy", he said it could generate opportunities across agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, food processing, MSMEs, poultry, dairy and storage.
"The government cannot provide jobs to every unemployed person. And not everyone is interested in a government job," he said.
"This sector can cover farmers, fishermen, horticulturists, food processing, MSMEs, poultry, goat farming, dairy, cold storages and large storage facilities. There is hardly any sector that cannot be covered through cooperatives," he added.
The appointments would help address the shortage of manpower in the cooperative sector, where individual Cooperative Inspectors were often required to oversee several societies.
"Individual CIs are functioning as administrators of 15 to 20 societies each. It is impossible for them to visit each society even once a month, let alone once a week," Adhikari said.
He said the state was clearing outstanding dues to government employees in accordance with Supreme Court directions.
"Out of the Rs 12,000 crore that was due, Rs 8,000 crore has already been paid. The remaining Rs 4,000 crore will also be paid by November 30," he said.
Adhikari said his government had so far initiated or approved recruitment for 63,496 posts, including 60,838 permanent regular positions.
He announced that another programme would be held at Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, on Saturday, where appointment letters would be handed over to more than 300 newly recruited Sub-Inspectors of Police selected through the Police Recruitment Board.
Adhikari said the state had taken several steps to strengthen the cooperative network, claiming that 570 milk collection centres had been established over the past four months with support from Amul and the National Dairy Development Board.
He added that 1,230 cooperatives and Primary Agricultural Credit Societies had been linked to Common Service Centres, while more than 300 digital services had been introduced. UNI SEN NST
