Old man attacked in Tripura after protesting BSF assault

Agartala, Nov 4 (UNI) Tension gripped Murapara, in Matabari assembly constituency of Udaipur in Tripura’s Gomati district, after a 75-year-old man was allegedly assaulted following an argument over the recent attack on BSF personnel at Ashabari in Boxanagar last night.
The victim, identified as Makhan Das, alleged that Alfu Mia and his sons attacked him after a dispute over remarks about local BJP MLA Tofazzal Hossain. On the morning of the alleged assault, a group had gathered at a tea stall in Murapara to discuss the attack on BSF personnel.
During the discussion, some participants allegedly made derogatory remarks about Hossain, the Boxanagar MLA. Das objected, saying the MLA should not be linked to the attack as he had no involvement in it.
His objections reportedly led to a heated argument with Alfu Mia, who then left the gathering in anger. Later that evening, while Das was returning home after shopping at Jamjuri Bazar, Mia and his sons allegedly confronted him near the Murapara Panchayat office and assaulted him.
Das sustained serious injuries in the alleged attack. Hearing his cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene, prompting the attackers to flee. They took him to Gomati District Hospital, where he received initial treatment and was later discharged.
Das claimed the attack was premeditated and carried out in retaliation for his objections during the tea-stall discussion. He said he intended to lodge a formal complaint at Kakraban Police Station, seeking legal action against Mia and his sons.
