Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh directs timely completion

Patna, October 9 (UNI) Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh reviewed the progress of sports infrastructure projects and directed officials to ensure their timely completion, warning of penalties and disciplinary action against contractors responsible for delays.
The review meeting on Friday was attended by Sports Department Secretary Deepak Anand and Director Vivek Ranjan Maitrey.
Discussions covered the progress of sports infrastructure projects, the supply of sports equipment to clubs, operation of sports complexes under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and construction of the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium.
The minister expressed strong displeasure over delays in the construction of sports projects being undertaken by the construction corporation of the Building Construction Department. She directed officials to set clear deadlines for all projects and ensure that construction work was completed within the stipulated time.
She also instructed the authorities to impose penalties on contractors who fail to meet deadlines and initiate necessary action in accordance with the rules.
The meeting also reviewed sports projects announced during the Pragati Yatra. Singh directed officials to expedite pending work and strengthen regular monitoring to ensure completion within the prescribed timelines.
To promote sporting activities at the district and grassroots levels, the meeting discussed providing funds to sports clubs for purchasing equipment. The initiative aims to improve access to sports facilities for players at the panchayat and local levels.
Reviewing the construction of the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium, the minister stressed the need to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of operating suitable sports complexes in Patna and other locations under the PPP model. The need for expert consultation to ensure quality construction of sports infrastructure was also considered.
Singh said the development of sports infrastructure and the provision of world-class facilities to athletes were among the government''s priorities.
She directed all concerned officials to ensure that projects were implemented within the stipulated time limits and warned that unnecessary delays and negligence would be taken seriously.
