Odisha Govt functionary held for Rs 1.15 crore fund misappropriation

Bhubaneswar, Sept 8 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested a Junior Assistant for siphoning off Rs 1.15 crore in government funds by generating fake bills in the names of retired employees and diverting their dues into his own bank accounts.
The accused, Mir Imtiyaz Ali, was serving as Junior Assistant at Fasimal Community Health Centre (CHC) under Jamankira Block and was also holding additional charge at CHC Govindpur under Bamra Block in Sambalpur district.
According to Vigilance, its investigation found that during the financial years 2021-22 to 2026-27, Ali allegedly generated false online and offline bills under various financial heads, including arrear salaries, unutilised leave encashment and provisional pensions, in the names of retired employees attached to Fasimal CHC. Instead of transferring the legitimate dues to the respective retirees or crediting the amounts to government accounts, Ali allegedly manipulated the disbursement process and diverted Rs 70.57 lakh directly into his own bank accounts for personal gain.

Odisha: 12 get life imprisonment for killing man, son over witchcraft suspicion

Bhubaneswar, Sep 17 (UNI) A court in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Thursday sentenced 12 people to life imprisonment for murdering a man and his son five years ago on suspicion that they practised witchcraft, police said.
Additional Sessions Judge, Paralakhemundi, H P Pattanaik convicted all 12 accused in the double murder case and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
