Army's 2 JAT Battalion summits 6,889-m Mt Khangchengyao in North Sikkim

Itanagar, Sept 17 (UNI) A 12-member mountaineering team of the Indian Army’s 2 JAT Battalion (Mooltan) has successfully summited Mt Khangchengyao (6,889 metres) in North Sikkim, adding another high-altitude achievement to the battalion’s mountaineering record.
The team, led by Major Vatti Chandra Kumar, reached the summit at 10:28 am on September 15 and unfurled the National Tricolour and the JAT Regiment Colour.
The expedition commenced from Rayang in Arunachal Pradesh on August 17, with the team subsequently undergoing acclimatisation at Lachung, Thangu and Giagoan. The climbers then undertook the challenging ascent through rugged terrain, steep slopes and glaciers amid extreme cold and low oxygen conditions.
The successful expedition demonstrated the team’s endurance, determination and ability to operate in demanding high-altitude environments.
The 2 JAT Battalion has a history of mountaineering expeditions and has previously scaled Mt Jago Kangri (6,550 m) in the Siachen Glacier region, Mt Bandarpunch (6,316 m), Mt Satopanth (7,075 m) and Mt Jogin-I (6,465 m).
The latest ascent further adds to the battalion’s record of Himalayan mountaineering expeditions and reflects its continued focus on adventure activities and high-altitude skills.
