Bankura youth beheads wife, father as 'Tantra sacrifice' on Astomi night, arrested

Bankura, Oct 19 (UNI) A wave of horror and sensation gripped Lalbaba Mana settlement on the Damodar riverbed in Sonamukhi late this evening on Maha Astomi, after a farmer youth allegedly beheaded his wife and his father in a suspected act of black magic ritual (Tantra sadhana).
The accused has been identified as Mongal Chowdhury, resident of Lalbaba Mana - a barh within the Damodar river coarse under the Sonamukhi PS area in Bankura.
According to police and the locals, Chowdhury allegedly beheaded his wife Rompa Chowdhury and placed her severed head on a temple altar as an offering during Sandhi Puja.
He also allegedly killed his father Rajendra Chowdhury for the same purpose. He used an axe for the 'sacrifices', which the police recovered from the courtyard of Mongal's thatched house.
Locals said that panic spread when they saw Mongal carrying the blood-stained head towards the temple. People started running in fear and immediately informed the police.
A team from Sonamukhi PS rushed to the spot, arrested the accused and cordoned off the temple and the courtyard. The body of Rajendra Chowdhury was recovered from the courtyard. Police said preliminary interrogation suggests the accused claimed it was part of Tantra Sadhana sacrifice on the auspicious moment of Sandhi Puja.
The double murder has left the entire area in shock. Further investigation is underway. The police has begun a hunt for the priest of the temple who allegedly advised Mongal to perform the act.
