Rajnath Singh announces higher AL-31FP output, second Shakti engine line at HAL

Bhubaneswar, Oct 6 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday announced major expansion of aero-engine production at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), including raising the annual capacity of AL-31FP engines from 30 to 50 and setting up a second production line for Shakti engines with a combined investment of Rs 553 crore.
Singh said the AL-31FP production capacity would be enhanced with an investment of Rs 335 crore, while the second Shakti engine production line would be established at an investment of Rs 218 crore.
The new Shakti engine line will have the capacity to manufacture up to 100 engines annually and is scheduled to be fully established by 2028-29. It will cater to indigenous helicopters, including the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).
