Bihar on alert over rising river levels, 48-hour vigil: CM

Patna, Oct 1 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday said that the government was on alert mode over rising river levels and has instructed the authorities to maintain special vigil for the next 48 hours.

Said that assistance from the Indian Air Force had also been sought for relief and rescue operations.
He directed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of people and prevent any inconvenience to the public. The Chief Minister said the state government was fully alert in view of the rising water levels in the rivers and had directed officials to maintain special vigilance for the next 48 hours.
Choudhary said record water levels had been witnessed this year in the Ganga, Gandak and Son rivers despite Bihar receiving 32 per cent less rainfall than normal during the monsoon.
The government was fully prepared to deal with the flood situation and relief and rescue operations were being carried out for affected people, he said.
The Chief Minister directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure that all necessary safety measures were taken promptly.
