TVK Bengal office row deepens as state unit chief counters central leadership's denial

Burdwan, Oct 1 (UNI) The controversy over actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) opening an office in Bengal's Burdwan deepened on Thursday, with the Bengal unit chief hitting back at the central leadership's denial.
The dispute began after an office was inaugurated at Fagupur in Bardhaman, where Chaitali Roy claimed to be the TVK coordinator in Bengal. A webpage titled 'TVK West Bengal' was also launched to mobilise supporters across the state.
However, a party spokesperson, Sankavi Dyannah Tuhinsamuel, had on Wednesday distanced the party from the Burdwan unit, stating that TVK had not officially opened any branch in West Bengal and that any such initiative by local supporters had no direct affiliation with the party.
Rejecting the denial, Bengal unit chief Chaitali Roy claimed on Thursday that Dyannah was not an authorised spokesperson of the party and that her version had already been rejected by the central leadership.
Roy said, "Sankavi Dyannah is not listed as authorised spokesperson. Our General Secretary N Anand already dismissed Dyannah's claims and told us to continue social work."
Chaitali, who arrived in Chennai on Thursday for by-election campaigning, said the general secretary had rebuked such statements after a complaint was lodged by Bengal unit members.
"Once we complained, N Anand rebuked careless acts of irresponsible persons like Dyannah. Burdwan office is our first unit in Bengal and we have concrete plans to open more offices in other districts soon," she said.
Earlier, local organisers Sanjay D and Chaitali Roy had claimed on September 27 that they had not opened an election office but a social welfare unit, for which they had received approval from the Tamil Nadu leadership. Party's Bengal unit deputy to Roy, Sekh Nurul Zaman, said, "We had invited central leaders, but they could not attend due to by-election commitments but instructed us to continue activities positively and unitedly."
The continuing claims and counter-claims have put the status of TVK's organisational presence in Bengal under scrutiny. The party's spokesperson has maintained that TVK has not officially established an office or organisational branch outside Tamil Nadu.
