Nandigram poll largely peaceful; Congress candidate faces BJP protest

Nandigram, Oct 6 (UNI) Polling in West Bengal's Nandigram was proceeding mainly peacefully on Tuesday, even as the arrest of Nandigram-I block Congress president Ashraful Tulla and a confrontation between Congress candidate Milan Pradhan and BJP supporters injected a note of tension into the high-stakes Assembly by-election.
Tulla was arrested during polling and taken to Nandigram police station. The reason for his arrest was not immediately known.
Pradhan, meanwhile, faced protests from BJP workers after casting his vote at his booth in Sonachura. The confrontation followed allegations by the Congress candidate that his party’s polling agents had been prevented from sitting at several booths since morning.
