Odisha: New technology boosts mental healthcare at SUM Hospital-2

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (UNI) The Department of Psychiatry at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital-2, Phulnakhara, has introduced digital biofeedback therapy to expand treatment options for patients with psychiatric and stress-related conditions.
The hospital announced the successful implementation of the technology-assisted psychotherapy on Saturday to mark World Mental Health Day, describing it as a step towards strengthening evidence-based, patient-centred mental healthcare.
Digital biofeedback therapy enables patients to monitor and learn to regulate certain physiological responses associated with anxiety, panic disorders and stress. It can also serve as a complementary intervention in managing blood pressure, tension headaches and migraines. The technique is further used in muscle retraining for patients recovering from paralysis or sports injuries and in managing conditions such as constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), said Dr Lagnajit Dash, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.
