West Bengal seeks to stem patient outflow, rebuild healthcare trust

Kolkata, Oct 6 (UNI) West Bengal needs to improve healthcare services and rebuild public confidence to stem the flow of patients travelling to other states for treatment, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Services and Sports Indranil Khan said on Tuesday, calling for greater public-private collaboration and expanded wellness services.
Speaking at the 20th edition of CII's Healthcare East in Kolkata, Khan said the continued outflow of patients highlighted the need to strengthen the state's healthcare infrastructure and improve people's confidence in services available locally. He also stressed the need to give greater attention to mental as well as physical health and expand wellness centres across West Bengal.
The minister's remarks came as industry leaders called for higher healthcare investment, wider access and a shift towards decentralised care, with CII President Designate Suchitra K Ella saying healthcare systems needed to ensure people received appropriate treatment at an affordable cost irrespective of their location or socio-economic circumstances.
