IJU condemns assault on Manipur journalists

Imphal, June 10 (UNI) The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) on Tuesday condemned the "brutal assault" on two reporters of Impact TV News by personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while they were covering a public protest at Kwakeithel in Manipur last week.
The IJU in a statement said it was appalled to learn that the assault occurred on June 7 despite the journalists identifying themselves as media persons. The organisation alleged that the CRPF personnel also resorted to using "foul language" against them.
Sabina Inderjit, IJU Secretary General said in the statement that the organisation stands in solidarity with its affiliate, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU), and the Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) in condemning this "egregious act of violence and intimidation" against journalists discharging their professional duties.
