Mission Shakti, XIMB join hands to strengthen women-led enterprises in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26 (UNI) In a major push to promote women’s entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance, the Odisha government’s Mission Shakti Department has launched a state-level capacity-building programme to strengthen the leadership, managerial skills and business capabilities of women-led Producer Companies across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated the two-day training programme at Mission Shakti Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Monday, highlighting the growing role of women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in entrepreneurship, collective enterprise and economic development.
Addressing the programme, Parida said the initiative was aimed at nurturing women as successful entrepreneurs and effective business leaders while unlocking new growth opportunities for women-led enterprises across Odisha.
She noted that women associated with SHGs had made remarkable progress in recent years and were increasingly moving beyond individual production activities to establish Producer Groups and Producer Companies. By working collectively, women are gaining greater control over business operations, expanding their market reach and strengthening their economic independence, she said.
Emphasising the importance of sustained institutional and financial support, the Deputy Chief Minister said the state government was extending assistance to women entrepreneurs through budgetary provisions, interest-free bank loans, training, skill development and several other initiatives.
The specialised capacity-building programme has been organised by the Mission Shakti Department in collaboration with the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), and the National Institute for Social Work and Social Sciences (NISWASS).
The programme will be conducted in 13 batches between October 26 and December 22, 2026, covering 320 members of the Boards of Directors (BoDs) from 64 Women Producer Companies across Odisha.
Of these, 63 Producer Companies are supported under the Agriculture Production Cluster (APC) initiative, while one is a Millet Producer Company.
The training is designed to enhance the managerial, financial and entrepreneurial capabilities of women leaders, enabling them to manage their enterprises more effectively and sustainably. Key areas of focus include Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) governance, leadership development, financial management, business planning and market linkages.
Through these interventions, the programme seeks to equip women directors with the knowledge and practical skills needed to improve business performance, strengthen institutional governance, explore new market opportunities and increase the incomes of their member communities.
Official sources said the initiative was expected to create new avenues for women entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods and achieve greater economic independence.
The programme also aims to accelerate the transition of women from Lakhpati Didis to Mahalakhpati Didis, reflecting the state government’s broader vision of building a stronger, more prosperous and economically empowered women-led economy in Odisha.
By combining institutional expertise with targeted capacity-building support, Mission Shakti aims to strengthen women-led Producer Companies as sustainable business entities and reinforce women’s role in driving inclusive economic growth across the state.
