Bihar: Jan Suraaj seeks termination of membership of 2 independent MLCs, submits petition to Council Chairman

Patna, Nov 5 (UNI) Jan Suraaj today sought termination of the membership of independent MLCs Banshidhar Brijwasi and Rahul Raj in the Bihar Legislative Council, alleging violation of democratic principles and betrayal of voters.
Jan Suraaj-backed candidates Afak Ahmad from the Saran Teachers'' constituency and Dr Vimohan Kumar from the Tirhut Graduates'' constituency met Legislative Council Chairman Dr Ram Bachan Rai and submitted a formal petition seeking action against the two MLCs.
Ahmad alleged that the two legislators'' political moves had raised serious questions about democratic propriety and amounted to a betrayal of the mandate of voters. He said supporting documents and other evidence had been submitted along with the petition. The Chairman, he said, had assured them of appropriate action.
Questioning the alleged move of the two MLCs from the JD(U) to the BJP, Ahmad added elected representatives were expected to uphold constitutional values, integrity and political ethics.
Jan Suraaj national spokesperson Kumar Saurabh said a party delegation had submitted a detailed memorandum to the Chairman two days ago. Following consultations with the party''s legal advisers, separate petitions were also filed by the party-backed candidates from the two constituencies.
He said fresh evidence had been incorporated into the petitions, including affidavits, video footage, photographs and other relevant documents submitted to the Chairman for consideration.
