CBSE tightens post-result correction process; incomplete requests from schools to be rejected

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has strengthened its process for correcting students’ demographic details. CBSE has informed affiliated schools that incomplete correction requests will be rejected and emphasised that schools are responsible for ensuring student records are accurate before examination results are released.
In a circular, the Board stated that schools and parents have approximately 20 opportunities from Classes IX to XII to provide and verify correct demographic details. However, CBSE continues to receive numerous correction requests after results are announced.
The Board has instructed schools to ensure that demographic details in their records are “100% correct” and to strictly follow CBSE guidelines during Class IX registration and submission of the List of Candidates (LOC). Schools must also obtain confirmation from parents regarding the accuracy of these details.
CBSE stated that students’ details undergo multiple verification stages before results are declared. Information is recorded in school admission records, verified during Class IX registration, and reviewed again when Class IX data is submitted for the Class X LOC. Correction windows are provided, and admit cards are issued only after students, parents, and school principals confirm the accuracy of demographic details.
Despite these safeguards, CBSE noted that schools continue to submit requests with incomplete records, missing or illegible documents, and papers with multiple corrections. In some cases, schools did not respond to requests for additional documents, delaying the processing of correction cases.
“In case incomplete requests are received, the same will be summarily rejected by the CBSE,” the Board stated. Schools must submit complete, certified records from all previous schools attended by the student when requesting a correction.
The Board also noted an increase in students contacting CBSE directly, submitting correction requests through legal notices or court proceedings.
CBSE advised that such requests should be processed through the respective schools. Bypassing the prescribed process may delay decisions, as necessary school records may not be available with the request.
Therefore, these directions are to be strictly followed by all CBSE-affiliated schools, as stated in the circular signed by the Controller of Examinations, Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj.
