Real strength of India-Chile relations lies in friendship between people of 2 countries: Vijender Gupta

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta today addressed members of the Indian community in Santiago, Chile, and highlighted the deep cultural, democratic and people-to-people bonds between the two countries.
Gupta said that although India and Chile are located at opposite ends of the world, the two countries share a deep connection through their democratic values, rich civilizational heritage and shared human spirit.
Delhi Assembly Speaker said that the real strength of India-Chile relations lies not merely in government-to-government agreements, but in the trust, warmth and friendship that people of the two countries build with one another.
Ambassador of India to Chile, Abhilasha Joshi, hosted a special reception in honour of the visiting Speaker at the Embassy Residence in Santiago, and it brought together prominent members of the Indian diaspora in Chile for an engaging interaction on India’s rising global footprint, expanding bilateral relations and the strong cultural bonds being developed.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta spoke about the historic significance of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and its place in India’s legislative heritage.
He said that the building in which the Delhi Legislative Assembly functions today carries within it an important chapter of India’s democratic journey, as more than a century ago, the Central Legislative Assembly of British India met at the same historic complex, where important debates connected with India’s freedom movement and the emergence of democratic consciousness took place.
Referring to the historical ties between India and Chile, Gupta said that both countries are rooted in ancient civilizations and have experienced struggles for freedom while building strong democratic institutions.
He noted that India and Chile are today expanding cooperation in several areas, including trade, minerals and energy, agriculture, Ayurveda, yoga, education and technology.
Gupta noted that the Indian diaspora contributes not only through economic engagement, but also through ideas, investments, expertise, experience and global networks, thereby creating new opportunities and strengthening connections between India and their countries of residence.
Inviting members of the Indian community to visit the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Gupta said that Delhi is not only the capital of India but also a city shaped by people who have come from different parts of the country and made it their home.
