Servant held for theft of cash, valuables worth Rs 3 cr; wanted to open cafe in Nepal

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Two house servants, including a juvenile, were arrested for allegedly burgling a residence in north Delhi's Timarpur area, while the owners were away on a trip, police said on Thursday.
According to officials, the accused and his associates had alleged plans to move to Nepal and open a restaurant-cafe using the proceeds of the crime.
In connection with the robbery, police apprehended the juvenile, the second servant, and his father-in-law.
The accused were identified as Anil Kamat (22), the house servant from Bihar's Supaul, Dev Chandra Sah (49), a vegetable vendor and Kamat's father-in-law, and the juvenile, who also worked as a house servant and is a resident of Jharkhand's Giridih area.
Police recovered 117 gold and diamond jewellery items worth around Rs 3 crore, Rs 4.34 lakh cash and the bags used to carry the stolen valuables.
On September 6, the resident's brother reported the burglary after learning that the locks on the first floor of the house on Mall Road were found broken.
The complainant, Anshul Gupta, told police that his elder brother Anuj Gupta and his family had gone abroad on September 2. After learning about the broken locks, he entered the premises and found the almirahs were broken open and articles scattered throughout the house. Gupta reported that cash and valuables, including gold and diamond jewellery, were stolen. Following the complaint, officials at Timarpur police station registered the case.
Two domestic servants hired by the family the previous month were missing after the incident, and their mobile phones were switched off, police said.
During the investigation, police examined footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras in Delhi, Bihar and Jharkhand. The suspects were tracked through CCTV footage from Mall Road to ISBT, New Delhi Railway Station and then towards Mukarba Chowk. Subsequently, the police established links between the two accused to Bihar and Jharkhand using technical surveillance and cyber intelligence.
A team was sent to Darbhanga, where CCTV footage showed Kamat and the juvenile at the railway station on September 8. Later, the juvenile was traced to his relatives' residence in Giridih and apprehended on September 10, police said.
Investigators traced Kamat to an area near Simrahi in Supaul district, where his in-laws lived. A police team raided the premises but did not find him there. His father-in-law, Sah, was present and was questioned.
Police located a red bag matching the one seen in CCTV footage hidden under a bed, while they recovered another bag containing cash from sacks of hay at Kamat's father-in-law's residence.
During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that the jewellery had been hidden underground, beneath the floor of another room. After around an hour of digging, they recovered the jewellery bag from a depth of about five feet, officials said.
Police apprehended Sah for allegedly possessing stolen property and sent him to judicial custody, while Kamat was detained by local police in the Pratapganj area and formally arrested on September 16.
According to police, interrogation revealed that Kamat and his associates allegedly planned to travel to Nepal, open a restaurant or cafe, and use the proceeds of the burglary to establish a lavish lifestyle.
Police further said Kamat had previously been involved in a burglary case involving around Rs 1.25 crore from Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area.
The case was solved through CCTV analysis, technical surveillance, cyber intelligence, and ground-level investigation across three states, they said.
