IAF Dronathon 2026 concludes at Pokhran, showcases indigenous unmanned warfare capabilities Inbox

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) The inaugural IAF Dronathon 2026 concluded at Pokhran in Rajasthan after showcasing indigenous capabilities in unmanned warfare, including unmanned aerial systems (UAS), autonomous and swarm technologies, electronic warfare (EW) and counter-UAS (CUAS) systems under realistic operational conditions.
The three-day event, brought together more than 20 Indian industry players, start-ups, MSMEs and innovators for live demonstrations aimed at assessing emerging unmanned technologies and their potential for operational employment by the Indian Air Force.
A key feature of the Dronathon was the presentation of the IAF UAS Roadmap, outlining the Service's approach towards strengthening its unmanned warfare capabilities and integrating new technologies into future operations.
The event also showcased Vayu UTtaM, an indigenous multi-mode UAS Traffic Management system designed to support the management and coordination of unmanned aerial systems. The live demonstrations covered autonomous and swarm systems as well as EW and CUAS capabilities in a realistic operational environment.
The IAF said the exercise marked a step towards translating technological innovation into operational capability and strengthening Aatmanirbharta in the unmanned warfare domain.
The participation of start-ups and MSMEs alongside established industry players provided an interface between developers and the operational requirements of the armed forces, with the demonstrations providing an opportunity to assess technologies in field-like conditions.
The Dronathon comes amid the growing importance of drones and counter-drone systems in modern warfare, where relatively low-cost unmanned platforms are increasingly being used for surveillance, precision attacks, electronic warfare and battlefield coordination.
The IAF Dronathon 2026 was conceived as a platform to bring India's defence technology ecosystem closer to the operational requirements of the Air Force. Its inaugural edition focused on technologies that could have direct relevance to future air operations, including autonomous platforms, swarm systems, electronic warfare and counter-drone capabilities.
