CJP sets Oct 2 for nationwide protest if CEC Gyanesh Kumar fails to resign Inbox

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) today announced that it will launch a nationwide protest from Mumbai on October 2 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CJP National Convenor Abhijeet Dipke, in a post on X on Friday, said the organisation would begin its agitation on Gandhi Jayanti and subsequently take it to cities across the country.
“If Gyanesh Kumar does not resign by tomorrow, CJP will begin its nationwide protest from Mumbai on 2 October, and take it to cities across India. This Gandhi Jayanti let’s pledge to save democracy,” Dipke said.
The announcement followed the party's Thursday deadline of 48 hours to the CEC to resign. The CJP had warned that failure to meet its demand would be followed by a nationwide agitation and an indefinite sit-in in Delhi.
Launching its “Election Commission Thik Karo” campaign, Dipke, along with co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, alleged that the SIR exercise had resulted in more than 13 crore names being left out of draft electoral rolls across 30 States and union Territories.
He demanded that the Election Commission establish that every exclusion from the draft rolls was lawful, transparent and subject to meaningful review.
Das flagged three areas for scrutiny, including an additional declaration introduced into the online Form 6 process requiring new applicants to provide information regarding their own or their parents' presence in earlier SIR electoral rolls.
The party also sought publication of records concerning excluded voters, appeals and related legal proceedings arising from the West Bengal SIR.
The CJP has demanded the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and an independent investigation into decisions taken during the SIR, including identification of officials who authorised disputed changes.
It has also called for a halt to further SIR-related exclusions, restoration of the January 2025 electoral rolls pending verification and transfer of relevant SIR records to the Supreme Court or an independent judicially supervised inquiry.
Among its other demands, the organisation has sought repeal of the 2023 law governing the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners and its replacement with a framework providing for wider institutional and civil-society participation.
