Congress accuses Education Ministry of shielding CBSE vendor amid penalty delay

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday accused the union Education Ministry and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of shielding technology vendor COEMPT, alleging that no penalty had been imposed on the company even five months after serious irregularities in the board’s on-screen marking (OSM) system came to light.
In a post on the social media platform X, Ramesh said the CBSE had announced on June 1, 2026, that it would penalise the vendor, but no sanction order had been issued and no punitive action had been taken against the company. The contract, valued at more than Rs 38 crore, has come under scrutiny over allegations of irregularities in the tendering process and the implementation of the digital evaluation system.
“Despite 5 months passing since huge irregularities in the CBSE’s on-screen marking (OSM) system rocked the nation, the culprit vendor COEMPT has not been sanctioned or faced penalties,” Ramesh said.
