INDIA Bloc to chart joint offensive against CEC, SIR as Opposition unity faces fresh test

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) The Opposition INDIA bloc will meet in New Delhi on Wednesday to evolve a common strategy against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with demands for his resignation, suspension of the revision exercise and coordinated nationwide protests expected to dominate the deliberations.
The meeting at the Constitution Club of India assumes significance as it comes a day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) demanded Kumar's immediate resignation and a halt to the SIR process, while calling for restoration of electoral-roll names that the party claims have been deleted. The Opposition is also weighing the possibility of initiating another removal process against the CEC, which, if pursued, would be the third such attempt.
The meeting is expected to focus on translating the individual campaigns of Opposition parties into a coordinated political and parliamentary programme, including peaceful demonstrations across the country and further action in Parliament.
