INDIA Bloc opens Joint Front against ECI over SIR, electoral rolls; Kharge demands action against CEC

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) Opposition INDIA bloc parties on Wednesday began a crucial meeting in New Delhi to chalk out a coordinated political and legal response to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleged irregularities in voter lists and what they described as growing threats to the integrity of the electoral process, with Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge demanding accountability from the Election Commission and calling for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The meeting, attended by a wide cross-section of INDIA bloc constituents, came amid an escalating confrontation between the Opposition and the poll panel over SIR and electoral-roll revisions. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X that the meeting had got under way and listed the participating parties as the Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party, All India Trinamool Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar), Shiv Sena (UBT), Rashtriya Janata Dal, CPI(M), CPI, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, CPI(ML), Indian union Muslim League, Kerala Congress (M), MDMK, VCK, RSP, Kerala Congress (Jacob) and All India Forward Bloc.
“These and other Opposition parties stand united to protect the Constitution of India from repeated assaults of the Modi Govt — most recently its Vote Chori gameplan through the ECI to remain in power,” Ramesh said.
