Punjab law and order under scanner as Pawan Khera flags police safety directive

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Congress leader Pawan Khera on Tuesday questioned the law-and-order situation in Punjab over a reported directive asking police personnel to avoid wearing uniforms while travelling on roads and in public or private vehicles, arguing that the measure raised serious questions about the safety of the police force itself.
In a post on social media platform X, Khera said, “The situation in Punjab has become such that the police chief has had to issue an order asking police personnel not to wear uniforms on the roads or while travelling in public and private vehicles, in order to keep the police personnel safe.”
Khera took a sarcastic swipe at the state government, adding, “If you have pride, anything is possible!”—a reference to the slogan “Maan hai to mumkin hai”. The Congress leader’s remarks came against the backdrop of concerns over the security of police personnel and the broader law-and-order situation in Punjab.
