Ambala to unveil majestic Shaheedi Smarak honouring 1857 martyrs on Nov 5

Chandigarh, Oct 31 (UNI) In a landmark moment for India's historical memory, Haryana is poised to etch a new chapter in the nation's consciousness with the inauguration of the grand Shaheedi Smarak at Ambala. The national-level memorial, built across a sprawling 22 acres, stands as a towering tribute to the martyrs of the First War of Independence of 1857, whose courage and sacrifice laid the foundation for India's eventual freedom.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will formally inaugurate the Smarak on November 5, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced today while chairing the first meeting of the Governing Council of the First War of Independence Shaheedi Smarak Society at his official residence, Kabir Kutir, here on Saturday.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also unveiled the official website of the memorial, marking a significant step toward bringing this heritage to digital audiences across the world. "The Shaheedi Smarak is not merely a building or a historical complex," Chief Minister Saini remarked. "It is a living symbol of the indomitable courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the brave sons of the nation who gave their all for India's freedom."
He emphasized that the memorial would serve as a vital bridge connecting future generations with the glorious saga of the freedom struggle, reinforcing their sense of patriotism and dedication to the nation.
The Chief Minister conducted a detailed review of the preparations for the inauguration and the union Home Minister's visit. He issued strict directives to officers to ensure that all arrangements, including security, traffic management, parking and other essential facilities, were completed within the stipulated timeframe and met the highest standards.
He further instructed officials to put in place robust security arrangements within the Smarak complex to ensure a seamless and safe ceremony.
Senior officers briefed him on the progress of preparations and the various logistical arrangements being put in place for the event.
The Shaheedi Smarak is designed to be far more than a conventional memorial. Through its 23 state-of-the-art galleries, the complex will bring to life the pivotal events of the 1857 uprising, the struggles of its brave warriors and their supreme sacrifices, using modern and deeply engaging technology. Officials believe the memorial will emerge as a major destination for history enthusiasts, students, researchers and tourists from across India and the globe.
Young visitors, the Chief Minister noted, would not only gain an intimate understanding of the freedom struggle's history but also draw inspiration from the lives of those who laid down their lives for the nation's liberty.
Recognizing Haryana's rich tapestry of valour, sacrifice and glorious traditions, the Chief Minister also announced plans to develop a special "Smarak Tourism Circuit" connecting historical memorials across the state. Haryana is home to numerous sites of national significance that have contributed immensely to India's historical narrative.
By linking these heritage destinations into a single circuit, the government aims to enhance their recognition, boost tourism and generate fresh employment and economic opportunities at the local level. Tourists will be able to explore multiple sites of historical and cultural importance across Haryana as part of one unified journey.
In keeping with the times, Chief Minister Saini launched the official website of the Shaheedi Smarak, underlining that making historical heritage accessible through digital media is the need of the hour. Through the portal, people in India and abroad will be able to explore the memorial's history, its various galleries, available facilities and other vital information from their homes.
The website will also provide live updates on the inauguration ceremony and enable online ticket booking. The Chief Minister directed officers to leverage digital platforms and communication channels effectively to publicise the Smarak, ensuring that more people learn about this invaluable heritage and are inspired to visit.
The meeting was attended by Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Sudhir Rajpal, Additional Chief Secretary (Public Works Department) A.K. Singh, Director General of Police Ajay Singhal, Commissioner and Secretary (Power Utilities) Ashima Brar, Commissioner and Secretary (Information, Public Relations and Languages) K.M.
