Haryana Doubles Journalists’ Welfare Assistance to Rs 5 Lakh; Media Body Seeks Health Cover, Higher Pension

Panchkula, Oct 10 (UNI) The Media Wellbeing Association (MWB) on Saturday welcomed the Haryana government's decision to double financial assistance under the Haryana Media Personnel Welfare Fund Distribution Scheme from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, while urging Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to introduce cashless health insurance and enhance the monthly pension for retired journalists to Rs 30,000.
MWB president Chander Shekhar Dharni said the decision, approved by the state Cabinet fulfilled a long-pending demand of the association and would provide greater financial support to eligible journalists facing medical emergencies and other crises.
"The Chief Minister has fulfilled his promise to journalists," Dharni said, adding that the government should now address other pending demands relating to social security. He said the association had also sought a cashless health insurance scheme providing treatment coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh annually, including outpatient services, on the lines of the Rajasthan model.
