Haryana Public Service Commission throne goes empty as Chairman Alok Verma exits after six years

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) The six-year reign of Haryana Public Service Commission Chairman Alok Verma came to a formal close on Thursday, leaving the state's most powerful recruitment body headless at a time when thousands of government job aspirants are waiting for appointments that can alter their lives.
As the constitutional clock struck midnight on Verma's tenure, the political and administrative corridors of Chandigarh erupted into a quiet but fierce war of nerves over who will occupy the chair that controls the gateway to Haryana's civil services.
Verma, a retired 1989-batch Indian Forest Service officer, walked into the HPSC headquarters here on October 23, 2020, at the age of 56.
Six years later, Article 316(2) of the Constitution has done what no political pressure could: it has removed him from office, automatically and irrevocably.
The provision mandates that a State Public Service Commission chairman holds office for six years or until attaining the age of 62, whichever arrives earlier.
For Verma, that hour has arrived.
The key recruitment body faces a leadership vacuum with one member post already lying vacant since April.
