Oppn protest outside Uttarakhand assembly on Day one of Bhararisain session

Dehradun, Oct 27 (UNI) The Opposition Congress party staged a noisy protest outside the Uttarakhand assembly in the summer capital Bhararisain on Tuesday demanding the extension of the session beyond the scheduled two days to enable a comprehensive discussion on key issues.
Congress legislators tried to block the entry point at the assembly building as they sat on the steps shouting slogans against the BJP and the state government demanding an eight day session.
Congress leaders claimed that two-day assembly session at Bhararisain Gairsain will be a futile exercise without any benefit to the people.
Opposition legislators alleged that State government was not willing to take up key issues including murder of 19-year Ankita Bhandari, controversial appointment of former BJP state in-charge Dushyant Gautam as Sikkim Governor, law and order situation in the state as well as mass removal of names from electoral rolls under Special Intensive Revision(SIR).
Congress MLAs waved placards that carried anti government slogans like, "Justice for Ankita Bhamdari, Chanda Chor Gaddi Chor (donation thief leave the chair), daughters are insecure, criminals being protected and bulldoze evidence".
Leader of the opposition in the house Yashpal Arya said that Uttarakhand is reeling under host of problems that are needed to be discussed in the assembly but Pushkar Singh Dhami government has intentionally avoided them.
"Uttarakhand's daughter Ankita Bhandari has failed to get justice even four years after her killing in 2022. Her parents were forced to protest at India Gate due to indifferent attitude of the BJP governments in Uttarakhand and Delhi. Leave aside justice for Ankita Bhandari, neither SIT of the state government nor CBI were able to establish why evidences pertaining to Ankita’s killing were bulldozed after her death.," he said.
Law and order situation in Uttarakhand is in shambles, temple donation along with host of other issues were left aside. Two days are not enough to discuss all issues. Session term must be increased for eight days, sad Yashpal Arya.
Party MLA and former LoP Pritam Singh too attacked the government saying, "this government is utterly insensitive towards people's issues. Centre has promoted controversial BJP leader as Sikkim governor instead of punishing him. Whole world knows about Dushyant Gautam's deeds and the BJP is trying to shield him. They are running away from discussing Ankita Bhandari case. Law and order in the state is at its lowest level in the present regime while infrastructural development is zero but ruling party doesn't want it to be discussed in the house."
Another Congress MLA Bhuvan Kapri said, "two day session of the state assembly is more a misuse of state exchequer and resources as almost all important public issues are left behind. Assembly session at Gairsain has become mere a political showcase."
The two-day session of Uttarakhand assembly was called at Bhararisain Gairsain to seek a vote on account on around ₹7000 crore for future expenses of the state government.
