Amritsar police bust three drug, illegal arms networks; five held with 13 pistols, 3.267 kg heroin

Neeraj Bali
Chandigarh, Sep 30 (UNI) Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted three alleged drug trafficking and illegal arms supply networks, arresting five people and recovering 13 pistols, 3.267 kg of heroin and 22 live cartridges, police said.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the arrested accused were allegedly involved in the procurement and distribution of illegal firearms and narcotics.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were involved in the supply of illegal weapons and narcotics,” police said, adding that investigators were working to identify other people linked to the networks.
Separate FIRs have been registered at D-Division and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar in connection with the recoveries.
Police said investigators were tracing the backward and forward linkages of the three networks to establish the source of the weapons and drugs as well as their intended recipients.
The investigation is also focusing on possible links with foreign-based handlers and other associates suspected of facilitating the movement and distribution of the contraband, police said.
“Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete backward and forward linkages and identify other persons involved in the networks,” police said.
Police did not immediately disclose the identities of the five arrested people or give a detailed break-up of the recoveries made in each of the three operations.
The latest action comes amid a series of operations by Punjab Police against alleged narcotics and illegal arms supply networks in the border region.
Police said further arrests and recoveries could follow as investigators trace the wider network and examine the alleged links of the arrested accused with suppliers and recipients.
Punjab Police said it would continue its drive against drug trafficking and illegal weapons networks operating in the state.
