Kashmir Pandit among five chargesheeted in migrant property fraud case

Srinagar, Oct 29 (UNI) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against five accused, including a Kashmir Pandit, in an alleged migrant property fraud involving 14 kanals and 3 marlas of land in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The chargesheet in an FIR registered in 2017, registered under Sections 420, 419, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the RPC, was filed before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Sopore, officials said on Thrusday.
According to the investigation, the case pertains to the alleged fraudulent sale of land at Wussan, Goshbugh Pattan, owned by Jawahar Lal Bhat. The complainant allegedly paid more than Rs 1 crore for the property but was neither handed possession of the land nor refunded the money.
The investigation revealed an alleged criminal conspiracy involving impersonation, fabricated identity documents and misuse of a purported Power of Attorney to facilitate the transaction, officials said.
The accused have been identified as Brij Nath of Amit Nagar Muthi, Jammu; Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar of Samson, Budgam; Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh of Sachen Bannet, Beerwah, Budgam; Zahoor Ahmed Dar of Margipora, Pattan; and Reyaz Ahmad Rather of Margaripora, Pattan, Baramulla.
Two of the accused, Brij Nath, also known by the aliases Soom Nath, Hadi Nath and Mohan Lal, and Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar, were arrested in late September. While Dar subsequently secured bail, Brij Nath remains lodged in Central Jail, officials said.
The EOW Srinagar had earlier filed a chargesheet in August 2023 in another case, FIR No. 27/2021, against Brij Nath and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, making the latest chargesheet the second against both accused in separate cases.
