UP villages to get Diwali makeover with cleanliness drive across gram panchayats

Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) In line with the Yogi government's vision for Diwali, a special campaign will be launched in rural areas of the state to promote cleanliness, sanitation, and public amenities.

Under this initiative, all 57,694 Gram Panchayats across the state have been instructed to ensure special sanitation arrangements during the festival. The cleanliness drive will continue before, during, and after the events in rural areas. Gram Panchayats have been asked to complete the necessary arrangements in a timely manner.
In preparation for the Diwali festival, Shiva temples, Devi temples, and other places of worship in villages will be specially cleaned. Emphasis has been placed on keeping the temple complexes, surrounding roads, and public spaces clean. Special cleaning arrangements will also be made at rivers, ponds, lakes, and the ghats of the Amrit Sarovar. Special teams of sanitation workers have been deployed.
During the festival, special attention will be paid to cleanliness, along with the prevention of infectious diseases. To prevent dengue and malaria, instructions have been given to remove waterlogged areas and garbage heaps in villages.
Fogging and anti-larvae spraying will be carried out around identified areas. Gram Panchayats will identify waterlogged areas and take action on a priority basis to find a permanent solution to the problem. This will help provide a clean environment for villagers during the festival and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
Proper disposal of waste generated after the end of the event has been made mandatory. For this, waste will be collected at RRCs (waste collection centers) established in gram panchayats. Responsibility for cleanliness will be ensured, so that public places are free of litter even after the festival ends.
Gram Panchayats have been instructed to keep hand pumps running continuously during Diwali and ensure the purity of drinking water. Gram Panchayats will be able to arrange for cleaning machines and workers through funds received from the Finance Commission.
Director of Panchayati Raj, Dhirendra Singh Sachan, said here on Thursday that to ensure the effective conduct of the campaign, District Panchayat Raj Officers and Divisional Deputy Directors have been assigned the responsibility of continuous monitoring.
A consolidated report of the activities and cleanliness undertaken under the campaign will be sent to the government daily. Through this, the sanitation system, condition of ghats, and other essential facilities in the gram panchayats will be regularly reviewed. The objective is to ensure proper arrangements related to cleanliness, drinking water and security in rural areas during the festivals.
