Himachal CM inaugurates Rs 75 lakh NCC hangar at Bhuntar Airport in Kullu district

Shimla, Oct 26 (UNI)Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday inaugurated a National Cadet Corps (NCC) hangar at Bhuntar Airport in Kullu district, constructed at a cost of Rs 75 lakh, marking a significant milestone for the Air Wing of the NCC in the state.
The facility is expected to strengthen aviation training infrastructure and provide young people, particularly those from remote and rural areas, with better opportunities to explore careers in aviation.
During the inauguration ceremony, the aircraft received a ceremonial water cannon salute as it proceeded towards the hangar. NCC cadets showcased static and flyable aircraft models, along with drones designed and developed by them, highlighting their technical skills, creativity and growing interest in aviation.
Addressing the gathering, Sukhu said the new hangar would strengthen aviation training facilities in the region and enable Air NCC cadets to gain practical knowledge of aviation, undergo simulator-based training and develop their flying skills.
He said the facility would help young people in Himachal Pradesh develop into skilled pilots, responsible citizens and individuals with leadership qualities.
The Chief Minister encouraged Air NCC cadets and said the state government wanted youth to make progress in the aviation sector.
The activation of the NCC flying node and commencement of training activities at Bhuntar Airport would inspire young people from the state's mountainous regions to pursue careers in the Indian Air Force and civil aviation, he added.
The facility assumes special significance as it is the first dedicated hangar of its kind in Kullu since the inception of Air NCC in Himachal Pradesh in 1972.
Its establishment follows efforts to overcome decades of infrastructure constraints, administrative complexities and operational challenges.
The hangar is expected to bring aviation training opportunities closer to young people, particularly those living in remote and rural areas.
Earlier, the Chief Minister was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at Bhuntar Airport.
