HP: Solo paragliding suspended at Bir-Billing till Oct 28 amid bad weather

Dharamshala, Oct 26 (UNI) The Kangra district administration has suspended solo paragliding flights at the world-famous Bir-Billing paragliding site till October 28, 2026, in view of adverse weather conditions and recent paragliding accidents.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Baijnath) Sankalp Gautam issued the order as a precautionary measure to ensure safety and prevent accidents.
Gautam said strong winds, rain, poor visibility, changing cloud conditions and sudden weather fluctuations had increased risks for paragliding activities in the region.
Tandem paragliding flights may continue under the supervision of authorised and qualified pilots and operators. However, assessing weather conditions before every flight has been made mandatory, and flights will not be permitted during strong winds, rain, poor visibility or other unfavourable conditions.
Paragliding marshals have been directed to strictly enforce the ban on solo flights and monitor tandem operations. Any unsafe flight or violation of safety rules must be immediately reported to the authorities.
All paragliding operators and pilots have also been instructed to comply with prescribed safety standards, operational guidelines and weather advisories.
The administration has emphasised that tourist safety remains its top priority, directing operators to inform visitors about prevailing weather conditions and prohibit flights whenever safety cannot be ensured.
