Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a sharp rebound in tourism since the pandemic, with domestic tourist visits rising by 156 per cent between 2021 and 2025. However, the latest data released by the union Ministry of Tourism shows that while the hill state remains one of the country's most popular mountain destinations, several neighbouring Himalayan states have also registered robust growth in tourist arrivals over the past five years.
According to data tabled in the Rajya Sabha, Himachal Pradesh received 1.44 crore domestic tourists in 2025, compared with 56.32 lakh in 2021. The state also recorded 84,828 foreign tourist visits in 2025, a steep increase from 4,932 in 2021. However, domestic arrivals fell from the 2024 peak of 1.80 crore, indicating a moderation in tourist inflow last year.
