HP Minister lays foundation stone for Harchakiyan Sub-Tehsil building to bring revenue services locally

Dharamshala, Sep 26 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Revenue, Horticulture and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi laid the foundation stone of the Sub-Tehsil building at Harchakiyan in Shahpur Assembly constituency. Once completed, the new building would enable residents to access various revenue-related services locally, saving them the need to travel long distances for routine work.
Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip of the Congress Legislature Party Kewal Singh Pathania was also present on the occasion. He said that the PWD has estimated the construction cost at around Rs1 crore.
Negi assured that there would be no shortage of funds for the construction of the building and efforts would be made to complete it at the earliest.
He said providing administrative services close to the doorsteps of people in rural areas was a priority of the state government.
The Minister said the government was according priority to roads, drinking water, irrigation, education, healthcare and other basic infrastructure in rural areas.
He highlighted the state government's enhanced relief assistance for families affected by natural disasters, saying compensation for fully damaged houses had been increased to Rs8 lakh.
He also said rural families had the right to demand employment under MGNREGA and that unemployment allowance was provided under the scheme if work was not made available as per its provisions.
On horticulture, the Minister said efforts were being made to promote fruit cultivation in the lower areas of the state. Under the HP-Shiva project, around 6,000 hectares in seven districts, including Kangra, had been targeted for horticulture development, with work underway on 3,000 hectares in the first phase.
He urged farmers to take maximum benefit of the scheme and develop additional sources of income through cultivation of guava, litchi, citrus fruits, malta and other fruit crops.
Pathania said the Sub-Tehsil building had been a long-standing demand of local residents. He said several development projects, including expansion of healthcare facilities and construction of a CHC building, had been sanctioned in the area.
He said around 19 drinking water tanks had been constructed or remodelled in the region in recent years, besides various works in roads, power, health and education sectors.
