J&K: DOMA seeks reservation in promotions, backlog vacancies, statehood restoration in memorandum to CM

Jammu, Sep 28 (UNI) The activists of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC/Minority Organisations (DOMA) on Monday demanded backlog vacancies, restoration of reservation in promotions and statehood restoration in a memorandum submitted through to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The representatives of SC/ST/OBC/Minority organisations from across the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, under the aegis of assembled here at Press Club, Jammu, seeking immediate action on long-pending issues concerning the constitutional and service rights of SC/ST/OBC employees and communities, besides the demand for restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The four major demands raised in the memorandum were restoration of reservation in promotions, which, according to DOMA, has remained stalled since 2015, through appropriate legislative action in the ongoing Assembly Session, filling of backlog vacancies reserved for SC/ST/OBC categories through a special recruitment drive, amendment of the transfer policy for inter-district reserved-category employees to facilitate transfers to their home districts on a case-to-case basis, restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and restoration of Punjabi language in Jammu and Kashmir
Speaking ahead of the programme, R K Kalsotra, State President, DOMA, said that the organisation was approaching the Government through constitutional and democratic means and that the memorandum should not be viewed as a protest or gherao.
Kalsotra said, “The Chief Minister has a majority in the House. If the Government is unable to get a Bill addressing these long-pending demands passed despite having the numbers, the SC/ST/OBC and minority communities will naturally want to know where the Government stands on these issues. Similarly, if any MLA or political representative does not support efforts to get these demands cleared, the community will take note of who stood with and who stood against the welfare of SC/ST/OBC communities.”
He appealed to the Chief Minister, members of the Legislative Assembly and all representatives supporting the rights of SC/ST/OBC communities to ensure that these issues are taken up seriously during the ongoing Assembly Session.
“We are not here to protest or create confrontation. We are here to remind the Government of the long-pending constitutional rights and legitimate grievances of our communities and to seek concrete legislative action,” Kalsotra said.
DOMA expressed hope that the Government would consider the demands in the spirit of social justice, constitutional rights and the welfare of employees and their families across J&K.
