Akhilesh Yadav not to contest UP assembly polls like did in 2012

Varanasi, Nov 3 (UNI) Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday announced that he will not contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media here, he responded to the question about contesting the assembly elections, saying, "We become chief ministers when we don't contest elections."

Akhilesh's statement is being seen as a reflection of his political strategy ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. His response suggests that he may focus on campaigning and leading the party rather than running for office himself.
However, after his statement, discussions have also started as to how the party will present him as the face for the post of Chief Minister in case he does not contest the elections.
Yadav stated that he believes in good and bad luck and will do what has worked well for him in the past.
Citing his political journey, he said that he won the last assembly election, but his party failed to reach 202 MLAs. This time, he has decided to field others instead of contesting the elections himself.
Yadav, referring to the year 2012, when he became Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was a Lok Sabha MP.
He described this political development as auspicious for him and said that he would do the same this time as well.
Presently, Akhilesh is Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj like he was in 2012.

His statement makes it clear that Yadav himself will not contest the 2027 assembly elections.
However, he is likely to retain responsibility for the party's campaign and leadership.
