Uttarakhand: Harish Rawat accuses state BJP, its national leadership of trying to malign his image

Dehradun, Sep 15 (UNI) Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and former AICC general secretary, Harish Rawat, today alleged that efforts were being made by the BJP leadership, both in the state and at the Centre, to tarnish his public and political image.
Replying to the questions raised by the ruling party leaders against his tenure as chief minister of the state, he "challenged them to conduct deep probe of his three-year rule, for there was no scope of abuse of power in public sector recruitments.
Three days after ED raids at the residence of his associate and former OSD, Rawat hit back against ED action alleging that attempt was being made to tarnish his 60-year political career. He challenged the BJP governments of Uttarakhand and the Centre to constitute a commission and investigate his tenure.
He claimed that there was no abuse of power anywhere and any point of time in entire government appointments and recruitments made during his tenure as chief minister of the state.
As he challenged the state and the union governments for probe against his three-year-long tenure as chief minister of the state, Rawat said it must be "fair and unbiased" in the "interest of the justice, upholding democratic values advocated by the Constitution of India."

In his social media post today, Rawat wrote " More than 42,000 candidates were given jobs and proposals for the recruitment against another 18,000 vacant posts were released during my three-year tenure. It was our government that constituted UK Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC), recruitment board for technical education and Medical Recruitment Boards. Within three years, Public Service Commission recruitments were conducted twice which never happened after that."
Former Uttarakhand chief minister extended invitation to all government investigation agencies, including the ED and CBI, to scrutinise his tenure as Chief Minister between 2014 to 2017. He stated, "if raids are needed to find my so-called hidden treasure by the ruling party they should go ahead. Apart from this, agencies must also hold a thorough probe into the sting operation and the circumstances surrounding imposition of President's Rule during my tenure."

The veteran Congress leader said that many people develop "stomach cramps" when they see him in public. "I have been out of power for 10 years but their cramps have not subsided yet. It continues to trouble them," he said.
"Mistakes sometimes happen during working and I too might made a mistake. Being human is to err. The person I appointed to the post of Chairman of the Subordinate Services Selection Commission could not uphold the dignity of that position. We had constituted an SIT for the investigation and set up a three-member inquiry committee to cancel the examination. I apologise for my inability to have probed adequatly the antecedents of the person prior to appointing the UKSSSC chairman," claimed former chief minister.
