Punjab Police conduct 575 raids in anti-gangster drive, 231 people held

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) Punjab Police conducted 575 raids at locations linked to associates of gangsters across the state on Monday and detained or arrested 231 people as part of its continuing anti-gangster campaign.
The operation was conducted on Day 258 of the “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign, launched in January to target gangster networks and their associates.
Police said two weapons were recovered during Monday's operations and seven proclaimed offenders were arrested.
Preventive action was also taken against 232 people, according to the police statement.
Punjab Police said the total number of arrests made since the launch of the campaign had reached 76,330.
Police have also asked people to anonymously provide information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activity through the state's anti-gangster helpline.
Separately, police said they continued their “Yudh Nashian Virudh” anti-drug campaign, arresting 188 alleged drug smugglers on Monday.
Police said 1.7 kg of heroin, 2,778 intoxicant pills and Rs 19,640 in alleged drug money were recovered during the operations.
The force said the cumulative number of alleged drug smugglers arrested during the campaign had reached 82,509 over 583 days.
Police also said 16 people were persuaded on Monday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
