Karnataka Governor Sudha Yadav visits Rewari village, pays tribute to Kargil martyr husband

Rewari, Nov 1 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Sudha Yadav on Sunday visited her husband's native village Dhamlawas in Haryana's Rewari district for the first time since assuming office, paying tribute to her husband, BSF Deputy Commandant Sukhbir Singh Yadav, who was killed during the 1999 Kargil War.
Yadav, who took oath as Karnataka Governor on October 16, was accorded a guard of honour by the district administration. Villagers welcomed her with garlands and flowers.
The Governor visited her husband's memorial and laid floral tributes, recalling May 26, 1999, as the day that changed the course of her life.
"Whatever the circumstances, the people of this region have always stood by me. Their support, blessings and trust have been my greatest strength in my journey from a teacher to Governor," she said.
Yadav, a former BJP parliamentarian from Mahendragarh, thanked President Droupadi Murmu for appointing her to the constitutional post and said she would discharge her responsibilities with dedication and integrity.
Greeting people on Haryana Day and Karnataka Rajyotsava, she described November 1 as a special occasion because both her home state Haryana and the state she now serves as Governor celebrate their foundation days on the same date.
She wished continued progress and prosperity to both states and invited Haryana residents to visit Karnataka to experience its educational institutions, culture and historical heritage.
Yadav entered electoral politics following her husband's death and represented Mahendragarh in the Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004.
She is the second woman to serve as Karnataka Governor. Rewari Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Meena, Superintendent of Police Hemendra Meena and other officials attended the programme.
