AP: 75 sheep fatally mowed down by speeding lorry

Srikakulam, Oct 3 (UNI) As many as 75 sheep were crushed todeath and 40 were injured when a speeding lorry ran over them on the national highway at Sesanam villageof Palasa mandal in Srikakulam district on Saturday.
Animal husbandry Assistant Director Matta Ravi Kumar said the shepherds were navigating the flock on the national highway when the lorry ploughed through the herd..
One of the shepherds suffered injuries in the incident. The lorry driver fled the scene with the vehicle. However, the locals chased the lorry and impounded it though the driver managed to escape at Lakshmipuram toll gate. The Kashibugga police seized the lorry and registered acase. The injured shepherd was admitted to hospital. The loss was estimated at overRs 10 lakh. The shepherds appealed to the government to disburse compensation as their livelhood been ruined.
