AP, Maharashtra ministers discuss development of Greenfield Ports, Fishing harbours

Vijayawada, Oct 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Road & Building and Infrastructure development, BC Janardhan Reddy, and Maharashtra Minister for Fisheries and Ports Nitesh Narayan Rane today discussed development of maritime ports, shipbuilding and logistics.

Maharashtra Minister Rane met AP Minister Reddy in the Secretariat at Amaravati near here and discussed various issues. Maharashtra Maritime Board CEO Pradeep P, CPO Captain Praveen Khara, Executive Engineer Manish Metkar, and others participated in the meeting.

The AP officials in a PowerPoint presentation explained to the Maharashtra Minister and officials about Greenfield ports, fishing harbours, fish landing centres, port-led industrial development, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and the new maritime policy being implemented in Andhra Pradesh.

The AP officials outlined the measures taken by the state government to attract investments through port development, expand industrial activities, strengthen the logistics sector, and boost employment opportunities for the youth.

Maharashtra Minister Rane praised the unique approach adopted by the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board to develop three Greenfield ports using the 'landlord model'. Rane noted that this strategy, wherein the government develops port infrastructure and subsequently hands over operations to private entities, not only enhances private sector participation in port management but also creates revenue-generating opportunities for the state.

He observed that the revenue model, which is expected to yield approximately 12–15 per cent returns from these ports in the future, serves as an exemplary model for other states.
Minister Reddy revealed: “The government is moving forward with a comprehensive plan to transform AP into a maritime, port, and logistics hub for the country. The government is placing special emphasis on providing better infrastructure for fishermen alongside port development. Each Greenfield port being developed involves an investment of approximately Rs 4,500 crore.”

Reddy highlighted that the shipbuilding sector is also being developed in AP, stating that MoUs have been signed with Maharashtra's Mazagon Dockyard for shipbuilding at Dugarajapatnam and with Goa Shipyard for shipbuilding at Machilipatnam, while a proposal regarding shipbuilding at Kakinada is currently in progress. Both the Ministers discussed the policies being implemented by the respective government to develop ports and fisheries.
