T'gana: CM Revanth to hold special meeting on drought, El Niño impact on Oct 12

Hyderabad, Oct 9 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will hold a special meeting with ministers on October 12 to review the impact of El Niño and prevailing drought conditions in the state, the Chief Minister said in a post on social media platform X today.
The meeting will discuss the situation in areas that have received deficient rainfall, the difficulties faced by farmers and immediate measures required to address the situation. Agriculture, irrigation water, drinking water supply, rising electricity demand and other urgent needs will be among the key focus areas.
The Chief Minister said the recent State Cabinet meeting had extensively discussed the drought situation. Telangana had recorded 17 per cent less rainfall than normal due to the El Niño impact, with drought conditions prevailing in around 235 mandals.
The state government has declared drought-affected mandals and passed a resolution in the Assembly urging the Centre to provide adequate financial assistance. It has sought a special package of Rs 20,000 crore to address the situation.
The October 12 meeting will also review the action plan prepared by the Cabinet Sub-Committee and consider measures to support drought-affected areas. Suggestions from farmers' associations and experts from various sectors, along with the outcome of an all-party meeting, will also be discussed.
