PM Modi pledges to work with CM Vijay for TN development, progress

Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) Pledging to work with Chief Minister Joseph Vijay for the development and progress of Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said as the Mukya Mantri of Gujarat, he knew very well the expectations of a Chief Minister and
a state.
“Together with Joseph Vijay and working together, we will take forward Tamil Nadu’s development,” Modi, flanked by Vijay on the dais, said after launching completed projects and laying the foundation for new ones, totaling Rs 13,000 crore, at Kendriya Vidyalaya ground in the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras (IIT-M) campus here.
This is the first time that Modi is sharing the stage and engaging with Vijay in an official function after the latter assumed office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. And Modi termed the launching of the development projects as a historic day for Tamil Nadu.
“As a CM, I know well what are the expectations of a state and as Prime Minister, keeping the progress of the nation has been the core
of my heart,” he said, recalling his relationship with previous Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu. “I have engaged with Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Then as Prime Minister with Jayalalithaa, O Panneerselvam, Edappadi K Palaniswami and M.K.Stalin,” he reminisced adding, “Governments have changed but development of Tamil Nadu remains unchanged.”
On his quarter century in public service, Modi said “With your (people) love and support, I have completed 25 years of service with faith in democracy through the guiding light of people of the country first and then cooperative federalism, keeping the nation’s progress at the core of my heart.”
His motto, Modi said, is to strengthen states to make the country a powerhouse and Tamil Nadu as a manufacturing hub remain an engine of growth for the nation. “The country is the second largest mobile manufacturer with electronics exports remaining at 18 percent and Defence export touching 50 percent,” he said.
Modi, who earlier, had a ride with Vijay at the inaugural run of the expanded Metro Rail service to suburban Poonamallee, underscored the importance of enhanced public transport as the engine of urbanization. “Urban development of Tamil Nadu is a priority. It is not a challenge but an opportunity with public transport being its backbone. In 2014, there were only 5 cities which had Metro Rail service for 250 km, but now, the country boasts of Metro Rail in 25 cities covering 1,100 km which is increasing further, making commuting faster and better,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Vijay made a Tamil pitch requesting the Prime Minister to ensure early Presidential consent for the Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution pressing for Tamil as the official language of Madras High Court, a Chartered High Court. He also sought the PM’s attention to reconsider the denial of approval for Metro Rail to Coimbatore and Madurai and also early sanction and completion of six-laning of Nation Highway stretches. He did not miss the opportunity to claim that his government was ushering in
a new culture of corruption free transparent governance in the state.
